About this course

NVQ Level 3 Advice and Guidance Course. Study online at your own pace over 16 weeks. Fees vary depending on your circumstances. Some learners may study free, and fees may apply for others. Check with South and City College Birmingham for your options. This City and Guilds Level 3 NVQ Advice and Guidance Qualification is for people already working in an advice and guidance role for at least 12 hours a week. You'll develop skills in client interaction, interpreting information, and delivering guidance within clear professional guidelines. It also supports those converting volunteering experience into paid work.

Who this course is for

This short Level 3 qualification is for individuals directly interacting with clients, offering advice, disseminating information, and providing guidance to ensure effective service delivery. You will operate within clear guidelines, often adapting and interpreting information for clients. Additionally, this qualification serves as on-the-job training for individuals aiming to convert volunteering skills into the workplace.

Entry requirements

You must already be working in an advice and guidance role for a minimum of 12 hours per week. You will also need to complete an initial assessment of your numeracy and literacy skills.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop skills in giving clear, accurate advice to clients in a professional setting.
  • You'll learn how to adapt and interpret information to meet individual client needs.
  • You'll practise delivering guidance within organisational guidelines and boundaries.
  • You'll build on existing workplace experience to strengthen your professional practice.
  • You'll learn how to support effective service delivery for the people you work with.
  • You'll develop the skills to convert volunteering experience into recognised workplace competence.

How you will learn

This is a work-based NVQ, so your assessment is grounded in what you do in your current role. You'll build a portfolio of evidence drawn from your day-to-day work. Assessment is competence-based, meaning you demonstrate your skills in practice rather than sitting exams. You'll also complete an initial assessment of your numeracy and literacy skills before you start. Study is online, so you can fit your learning around your working hours.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. South and City College Birmingham will confirm anything else you need before you start.
