About this course

Level 3 Creative Media Practice Course in Leicester. Classes run at Leicester College St. Margaret's Campus, full-time during the day. This one-year course covers media theory, film, photography, graphic design, journalism, podcasting and marketing. You'll work through practical and theoretical units, gaining broad skills across the creative media sector. Entry requires four GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including English Language and Maths. This is the first year of a two-year programme. On completion, you can progress to the Extended Diploma. Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Diploma in Creative Media Practice with certificate.

Who this course is for

This is the first year of a two year programme and offers you the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills in creative media. Covering subject such as media theory, film, podcasts, marketing, photography, graphic design and journalism, this course will develop your knowledge of this industry. Equivalent to 1.5 A Levels, on successful completion of this 540-Diploma Qualification you may progress to the Extended Diploma (equivalent to three A-levels).

If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.

If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.

For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.

If you are aged 19 or over you may incur fees.

  • You'll apply research techniques used across the media industry.
  • You'll create podcast content and explore audio production.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of practical projects and theoretical study in the classroom. Assessment is coursework-based, with units assessed through assignments, portfolios, and production work. You'll use industry-standard facilities at the campus. If you're aged 16 to 18 and haven't achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths, you'll also complete Functional Skills Maths alongside the course, plus a work experience placement and an employability programme.
