About this course

Free Level 3 Access to HE Diploma (Health) Course in Boston. Classes run at Boston College, part-time during the day. You'll study over two years, giving you time to balance learning with other commitments. The course covers the knowledge and skills needed to apply for university programmes in nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, physiotherapy, occupational health, radiography, and related health and social care fields. To join part-time, you need one Level 2 qualification in English or Maths; Boston College will support you in gaining the other over the course. UK universities recognise this qualification as meeting standard entry requirements.

Who this course is for

This Access to Health and Social Care Professions programme is designed for adults interested in undertaking nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, physiotherapy, occupational health, radiography and other health and social care related training. Successful completion of the course could also lead to progression onto the College's University Level courses. You could study the HNC/HND in Health and Social Care on your doorstep.

Entry requirements

To undertake the course full time, you will need Maths and English at Level 2 GCSE Grade 4 (legacy grade C) or above. Functional skills for both at Level 2 will also be accepted. To join us part time you only need one Level 2 qualification in English or Maths, and we will work with you to gain your other Level 2 over the 2-year part time course.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop knowledge of human biology and health sciences relevant to higher education study.
  • You'll build academic writing and research skills needed for university-level work.
  • You'll explore the principles underpinning health and social care practice.
  • You'll study topics relevant to nursing, midwifery, and allied health professions.
  • You'll develop critical thinking and analytical skills for evaluating evidence.
  • You'll practise referencing, essay writing, and presenting arguments clearly.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Boston College. Assessment is through a combination of written assignments, essays, and coursework completed across the two years. There are no formal written exams in the traditional sense; your work is assessed through a portfolio of assignments that demonstrate your knowledge and skills across the different subject areas covered.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Boston College will confirm anything else you need before you start.
