Free Level 3 Access to HE Diploma (Health) Course in Boston. Classes run at Boston College, full-time during the day. This access to HE diploma (health) qualification is designed for adults aiming to study nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, radiography, or other health and social care subjects at university. The course takes 9 months full-time. To enrol on the full-time route, you'll need Maths and English at GCSE Grade 4 (or Functional Skills Level 2 in both). Universities across the UK recognise this qualification as a route into degree-level study.
Who this course is for
This Access to Health and Social Care Professions programme is designed for adults interested in undertaking nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, physiotherapy, occupational health, radiography and other health and social care related training. Successful completion of the course could also lead to progression onto the College's University Level courses. You could study the HNC/HND in Health and Social Care on your doorstep.
Entry requirements
To undertake the course full time, you will need Maths and English at Level 2 GCSE Grade 4 (legacy grade C) or above. Functional skills for both at Level 2 will also be accepted. To join us part time you only need one Level 2 qualification in English or Maths, and we will work with you to gain your other Level 2 over the 2-year part time course.
What you will learn
You'll develop knowledge of human biology and how the body's systems function.
You'll study health, disease, and the principles behind clinical care.
You'll explore social care contexts, including how services are organised and delivered.
You'll build academic writing and research skills needed for university study.
You'll practise critical thinking and evidence-based argument across health topics.
You'll gain an understanding of professional and ethical issues in health and social care.
How you will learn
You'll study in a classroom at Boston College, attending daytime sessions across the 9-month course. Learning is delivered through a mix of taught sessions, guided study, and written assignments. Assessment is primarily through coursework and assignments rather than formal exams, though some units may include assessed tasks. Your work is graded at Pass, Merit, or Distinction, and universities use these grades when making offers.
What you will need to bring
The centre will provide most materials. Boston College will confirm anything else you need before you start.
