About this course

Free Level 2 Beauty Therapy Course in Bournemouth. Classes run at Bournemouth & Poole College Bournemouth Campus, full-time during the day. You'll cover anatomy and physiology, skin care, manicure and pedicure, waxing, make-up, eyelash and brow treatments, and salon business skills. Practical lessons begin on real paying clients from the start, and a compulsory work placement in a beauty salon or spa runs throughout the year. The course takes one year full-time. Entry requires a minimum of four GCSEs at grades 9 to 3, including Science, English, and Maths.

Who this course is for

This course is designed for those who have an ambition for a career in the beauty therapy industry. It covers all the basic beauty therapy treatments and will provide you with a good base from which you could progress to further courses.

During the course, you will develop practical expertise and essential knowledge of the industry.

Practical Skills & Treatments: please be aware that as part of your practical lessons, students learn the treatments on each other. Further development is then performed on paying clients which is part of the assessment process.

Entry requirements

You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades 9-3 (formerly A*- D) or above including Science, English and Maths . There is also an alternative route (Level 1 Beauty) for students not achieving these grades and will be discussed at interview/enrolment.

You will be working on external clients from the start of the programme.

In addition to the qualifications, you will be required to complete and pass a practical trade test.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical hands-on sessions, first practising treatments on fellow students and then on paying clients as part of the assessment process. Assessment includes tutor observations, written assignments, and ongoing examinations. You'll also complete and pass a practical trade test. A weekly work placement in a beauty salon or spa, including a two-week block, is a compulsory part of the programme.
