About this course

Free Level 1 Hair and Beauty Sector Course in Bournemouth. Classes run at Bournemouth & Poole College Bournemouth Campus, full-time during the day. Over one year, you'll build practical hair skills and industry knowledge, working in the college's training salons and completing a voluntary work placement in a local salon. The course covers salon reception, basic hair care, health and safety, teamwork, and employment rights. English and maths are integrated into your study programme.

Who this course is for

This course is designed for people with an ambition for a career in the Hair industry. It will provide you with a good introduction from which you could progress to further courses.

During the course, you will be introduced to practical expertise and some knowledge of the industry. You will receive help and support with your academic skills to help you progress onto further courses.

Please be aware that as part of your practical lessons, students learn the treatments on each other. Further development is then performed on paying clients.

Entry requirements

You will need to achieve 3 GCSEs grades including English and maths grades 3-2 (formerly D-F). Alternatively successful completion of a Foundation Entry Level 3 qualification and have achieved an Entry Level 3 in English and maths. Each applicant will be assessed on their individual merits, and a keen interest & self motivation in Hair as a career is essential.

In addition to the qualifications, you will be required to complete and pass a practical trade test

How you will learn

Practical lessons take place in the college's training salons, where you'll work on fellow students and, as your skills develop, on paying clients. You'll also complete a voluntary work placement in a local salon. Assessment includes a practical trade test alongside your coursework.
