About this course

Free Level 2 Barbering Course in Hammersmith and Fulham. Classes run at Hammersmith & Fulham College, part-time during the day, over 19 weeks. You'll develop cutting skills for men's hair and facial hair shaping, practising on real clients in the college's public-facing salon. The entry requirements include at least two years of experience or current employment in a barbering salon, plus relevant English and Maths qualifications. Entry requirements

We recommend that you have:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths at grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 1 qualifications or
  • A relevant Level 1 course, Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths or
  • ESOL at Level 1

Must have at least 2 years of experience or current employment in a barbering salon.

At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you.

  • You'll learn men's hair cutting techniques, including scissor and clipper work.
  • You'll develop facial hair shaping and beard grooming skills.
  • You'll practise client consultation and care in a live salon environment.
  • You'll build customer service skills working with members of the public.
  • You'll compile a portfolio showcasing your progress and practical work.
  • You'll present your best work at an end-of-year showcase to industry professionals.

How you will learn

You'll learn through hands-on practical work in the college's salon, which is open to the public. Tutors assess all your work and give you written feedback. You'll complete practical assignments and build a portfolio of coursework throughout the course. Work is graded on a scale of Distinction, Merit, Pass, or Unclassified.
