About this course

Free Level 1 Hairdressing Course in Hammersmith and Fulham. Full-time daytime classes run at Hammersmith & Fulham College. You'll train in a working salon that's open to the public, building hands-on skills in cutting, styling, and client care. The course runs for one year. Entry requirements include two GCSEs at grade 4 or above in English and maths, or Functional Skills at Entry Level 3, or ESOL at Entry Level 3. You'll also have an interview and may complete an initial assessment in English and maths at enrolment.

Entry requirements

We recommend that you have:

Two GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths or Functional Skills in English and maths at Entry Level 3 or ​ESOL at Entry 3.

At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you. You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on your grades. Excellent attendance and punctuality are key elements of employability.

You'll learn through hands-on practical sessions in the college's public-facing salon. Tutors will mark your work and grade it on a Distinction, Merit, Pass, or Unclassified scale. You'll build a portfolio of coursework throughout the year. Assessment is designed around the skills you've been taught, giving you the chance to demonstrate them in real client situations.
