About this course

Free Level 1 Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Course in Hammersmith and Fulham. Classes run at Hammersmith & Fulham College, full-time during the day. Entry requirements

We recommend that you have:

two GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths or Functional Skills in English and maths at Entry Level 3 or ESOL at Entry Level 3

At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you. You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and Maths, depending on your grades. Excellent attendance and punctuality are key elements of employability.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop practical hair styling techniques, including improving hair appearance and condition.
  • You'll learn skin care and facial treatments for clients.
  • You'll practise nail and hand care, including manicure techniques.
  • You'll learn foot care and basic pedicure skills.
  • You'll apply basic make-up and learn make-up consultation techniques.
  • You'll practise client care and customer service in a salon setting.
  • You'll build a portfolio of work to evidence your skills and progress.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical, hands-on sessions in the college salon, which is open to the public. Tutors mark your work and give feedback throughout. You'll build a portfolio of coursework to show your progress. Practical assignments let you demonstrate skills in real client situations. Some elements, including Functional Skills, are assessed through external exams.
