About this course

Free Level 1 Health and Safety within a Construction Environment Course in Worksop. Classes run at Worksop Skills Academy, full-time during the day. This is part of an Introduction to Sustainable Construction programme. The course runs over 2 weeks. You must be aged 19 or over, unemployed, and a resident of the East Midlands Combined County Authority to be eligible. You'll have an initial assessment before you start. You'll cover the key health and safety rules and risks that apply on construction sites.

Who this course is for

The qualification is part of our Introduction to Sustainable Construction programme.

Learners will need to be 19+ (as at 31st August 2025) and be unemployed. The programme is delivered in a classroom environment

What you will learn

  • You'll identify the main health and safety hazards found on construction sites.
  • You'll understand your legal responsibilities as a worker in a construction environment.
  • You'll learn how to report accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • You'll recognise the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and when to use it.
  • You'll understand safe working practices for common construction tasks.
  • You'll learn how to respond to emergencies on site.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Worksop Skills Academy. Teaching is delivered face-to-face during the day. Assessment is through a written test or short-answer questions covering the health and safety knowledge from the course. Your tutor will guide you through the material before you sit the assessment.

The centre will provide most materials. Worksop Skills Academy will confirm anything else you need before you start.
