About this course

Free Level 1 Health and Safety within a Construction Environment Course in Doncaster. Classes run at Doncaster Skills Academy, full-time during the day. The course runs for 3 weeks and is part of an Introduction to Sustainable Construction programme. You must be 19 or over, unemployed, and a resident of the East Midlands Combined County Authority area to be eligible. You'll have an initial assessment before you start. You'll cover the key health and safety rules, risks, and responsibilities that apply on construction sites. This is a Highfield health and safety within a construction environment qualification.

Who this course is for

The qualification is part of our Introduction to Sustainable Construction programme.

Learners will need to be 19+ (as at 31st August 2025) and be unemployed. The programme is delivered in a classroom environment

What you will learn

  • You'll identify the main health and safety hazards found on construction sites.
  • You'll understand your legal responsibilities as a worker in a construction environment.
  • You'll learn how to report accidents, incidents, and near misses correctly.
  • You'll recognise the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and when to use it.
  • You'll understand safe working practices and how to follow site rules.
  • You'll learn how to respond to emergency procedures on a construction site.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Doncaster Skills Academy. Teaching is delivered face-to-face during the day over 3 weeks. Assessment is through a short written or multiple-choice test set by Highfield. You'll complete the assessment at the centre. An initial assessment takes place before the course begins to confirm the level is right for you.

The centre will provide most materials. Doncaster Skills Academy will confirm anything else you need before you start.
