About this course

Level 1 Car Mechanic Course in Warwick. Classes run at Warwick Trident College, full-time during the day. Tuition is free if you're under 19 years old or hold an EHCP. If you're 19 or over, fees may apply, though waivers are available based on income or benefits. Over one year, you'll study engine technology, transmission, and chassis systems, and put theory into practice in a vehicle engineering workshop. The course covers the skills modern mechanics need to maintain and repair increasingly complex vehicles.

Who this course is for

With modern cars becoming ever more sophisticated, the modern automotive mechanic needs a wide range of skills to be able to repair and maintain them. This one year course is an ideal starting point if you wish to pursue a career in vehicle maintenance and repair. As well as covering the technology involved in the engine, transmission and chassis of the motor vehicle, you will put the theory you learn into practice in our state-of-the-art vehicle engineering workshop.

What you will learn

  • You'll learn how engine systems work and how to carry out basic maintenance.
  • You'll study transmission systems and how power is transferred through a vehicle.
  • You'll explore chassis technology, including steering, suspension, and braking.
  • You'll develop practical skills working on real vehicles in a workshop setting.
  • You'll learn how to use tools and equipment safely and correctly.
  • You'll understand health and safety practices in an automotive workshop.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of classroom sessions and hands-on practical work in a vehicle engineering workshop. Assessment is through a combination of practical tasks and written work covering the units of the qualification. Your progress will be assessed throughout the year rather than through a single end-of-course exam.
