Level 1 Car Mechanic Course in Birmingham. Classes run at Longbridge Campus, full-time during the day, over one year. Fees vary depending on your circumstances. If you're 16 to 18 years old, the course may be free. If you're 19 or over, fees may apply. You'll study chassis and construction, engines, starting and charging systems, steering and suspension, wheels and tyres, and vehicle lighting and electronics. There are no specific entry requirements. You'll have an assessment in English and maths before you start. This car mechanic qualification is awarded by IMI.
Who this course is for
This one-year qualification is for you if you are a school-leaver looking to start a career in the maintenance of motor vehicles. You will gain the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to start a career as a mechanic/ technician in the motor vehicle service and repair industry. Achieving this introductory automotive qualification gives you the background knowledge you need to be able to advance onto a Level 2 or Level 3 course or an apprenticeship. Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success on your course, your chosen vocation and life in general. Throughout the course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.
