About this course

Level 3 Automotive Refrigerant Handling Course in Birmingham. Classes run at Longbridge Campus, part-time in the evenings, so you can fit study around your existing work. Fees vary depending on your circumstances. Contact the campus directly for full fee information. This automotive refrigerant handling qualification is a legal requirement for mobile air conditioning (MAC) technicians working on cars and car-derived vans under the EU F-gas Regulation. You'll need a Level 2 Automotive qualification or equivalent trade experience to enrol. The course runs for up to one week.

Who this course is for

All mobile air conditioning (MAC) technicians working with cars and car derived vans, must have achieved as a minimum requirement, a refrigerant handling qualification which fulfils the European Union F-gas Regulation (EC842/2006 and Annex to Regulation EC307/2008). This Defra-approved qualification offers a solution that provides experienced automotive MAC technicians with evidence that they meet the minimum F-gas requirements to carry out installation, maintenance or servicing of stationary equipment containing F-Gas refrigerants. Important note: training and certification in the 2014 F-Gas Regulation are based largely on the existing requirements in the 2006 regulation. Existing qualifications remain valid.

Entry requirements

Needs to have Automotive L2 or Automotive trade experience (subject to experience)

What you will learn

  • You'll practise refrigerant recovery procedures to the required standard.
  • You'll carry out leak checking on equipment containing fluorinated gases and ozone-depleting substances.
  • You'll understand the handling requirements for both F-gas and ODS refrigerants.

How you will learn

Training is classroom based, delivered in the evenings at Longbridge Campus. You'll cover the theory and practical skills needed to meet the F-gas Regulation requirements.
