About this course

Level 3 Automotive Refrigerant Handling Course in Birmingham. Classes run at South & City College Birmingham Bordesley Green Campus, part-time in the evening. Fees may apply depending on your circumstances, though some learners may be eligible for a free place. This is a regulatory requirement: all mobile air conditioning technicians working on cars and car-derived vans must hold an automotive refrigerant handling qualification that meets the EU F-gas Regulation (EC842/2006). The course covers installation, servicing, maintenance, recovery, and leak checking of equipment containing F-gas refrigerants and ozone-depleting substances. You'll need a Level 2 automotive qualification or equivalent trade experience to enrol. The course takes up to one week.

Who this course is for

All mobile air conditioning (MAC) technicians working with cars and car derived vans, must have achieved as a minimum requirement, a refrigerant handling qualification which fulfils the European Union F-gas Regulation (EC842/2006 and Annex to Regulation EC307/2008). This Defra-approved qualification offers a solution that provides experienced automotive MAC technicians with evidence that they meet the minimum F-gas requirements to carry out installation, maintenance or servicing of stationary equipment containing F-Gas refrigerants. Important note: training and certification in the 2014 F-Gas Regulation are based largely on the existing requirements in the 2006 regulation. Existing qualifications remain valid.
