This course is for eligible individuals in the Liverpool City Region who wish to gain the skills and licence to drive a Category CE vehicle (up to 44 tonnes) professionally.

Entry requirements

To participate on this Skills Bootcamp, candidates must:

Live or work in the Liverpool City Region postcode area Be aged 19 or older Have not participated in another funded Skills Bootcamp since 1st April and not be on any other government-funded training Have Right To Work in the UK status or exemptions Have a car driving licence with no more than 6 points and no DR/DG/DD/CD offences Have obtained their provisional HGV licence before enrolment

What you will learn

  • You'll develop the skills to drive a Category C+E vehicle safely and professionally.
  • You'll learn the rules and regulations that apply to HGV drivers on UK roads.
  • You'll practise vehicle checks, coupling and uncoupling, and safe loading procedures.
  • You'll build your knowledge of tachograph use and drivers' hours rules.
  • You'll prepare for the theory and practical tests required for your Cat C+E licence.

How you will learn

Learning is blended. You'll complete some study online at your own pace, then attend practical sessions at the centre in Knowsley. Assessment includes theory tests and a practical driving test to gain your Category C+E licence. You'll need to obtain your provisional HGV licence before you start.

The centre will provide most materials. TRS Logistics Training Academy Knowsley will confirm anything else you need before you start. You must have a valid car driving licence with no more than 6 points and no DR, DG, DD, or CD offences. You'll also need to have your provisional HGV licence in place before enrolment.
