About this course

Free Functional Skills Maths Level 2 in Medway. Classes run at TCHC Medway GAPS Centre. You'll need to be enrolled on a vocational qualification at one of the GAPS centres to join. The course covers three areas: using numbers and the number system, working with measures, shape and space, and handling data. At 55 hours, it's a focused level 2 functional skills maths course that fits alongside your vocational study. It's the recognised GCSE maths equivalent, accepted by employers and colleges when they ask for GCSE maths or equivalent. Assessment includes a calculator and a non-calculator exam.

Who this course is for

Young people aged 16-18 (and 16-24 with an EHCP) who would like to gain a qualification in Functional Skills Maths.

What you will learn

  • You'll work with numbers and the number system, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • You'll use common measures, shape, and space to solve practical problems.
  • You'll handle and interpret data, including charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll apply maths to everyday situations, including cost-of-living and budgeting.
  • You'll prepare for both calculator and non-calculator assessments.

How you will learn

You'll study in a classroom at TCHC Medway GAPS Centre. Assessment is by two exams: one where you can use a calculator and one where you cannot. Both are set and marked externally by NCFE.
