Free Functional Skills English Level 1 in Scarborough. Classes run at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, part-time during the day. The course runs for 18 weeks, giving you time to build your reading, writing, and communication skills at a manageable pace. A level 1 functional skills english course covers everyday English tasks: understanding texts, writing clearly, and speaking and listening in practical situations. When employers ask for GCSE English or equivalent, a Functional Skills Level 1 English qualification is a recognised step in that direction. You'll sit an assessment at the end.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

How you will learn
You'll learn in a classroom at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, with a tutor guiding each session. Learning covers reading, writing, speaking, and listening through practical tasks and activities. Assessment is by external test for reading and writing, and a separate speaking and listening assessment. Both are set and marked externally by City and Guilds.
