Free Functional Skills English Level 1 in Scarborough. Evening classes run at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. The course runs for 18 weeks part-time. It covers reading, writing, and speaking and listening at Level 1. When employers ask for GCSE English or equivalent, a Level 1 Functional Skills English Certificate is a recognised step toward that standard. You'll sit a City and Guilds assessment at the end.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact
What you will learn
You'll read and understand different types of texts, including everyday documents and longer passages.
You'll write clearly for different purposes, such as letters, emails, and short reports.
You'll use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar in your writing.
You'll listen carefully and respond appropriately in discussions and conversations.
You'll speak clearly and confidently to communicate information and ideas.
You'll identify the main points and purpose of spoken and written material.
How you will learn
You'll learn in a classroom at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, attending evening sessions over 18 weeks. Teaching covers reading, writing, and speaking and listening. Assessment is through a City and Guilds external test. Reading and writing are assessed in a formal written exam. Speaking and listening is assessed separately, usually through a recorded task or observed activity.
