Must meet all funding eligbility requirements, including:

  • Age 19+ on 31/08/25
  • Live in a Tees Valley Postcode
  • Not in any other form of funded training
  • Must meet all residency criteria to access funded training.

  • You'll use grammar, punctuation, and spelling accurately at Level 1 standard.

  • You'll identify the main points and purpose in texts you read.
  • You'll plan and organise your writing before you draft it.

How you will learn

You'll split your time between online study and sessions at Middlesbrough Central Library. Online activities let you work through reading and writing tasks at your own pace. Centre sessions give you the chance to practise speaking and listening with a tutor and other learners. Assessment is by externally set tests in reading and writing, plus a speaking and listening assessment.
