About this course

Free Entry Level ESOL Skills for Life (reading) Course in Lambeth. Evening classes run at Lambeth Adult Learning, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. You'll learn to read everyday English: forms, letters, health and safety information, and transport signs. The course covers 48 hours of part-time study. You'll need to complete an initial assessment before you start. This confirms that Entry Level 3 is the right level for you and helps plan your learning. The assessment requires either an Entry Level 2 ESOL Reading qualification or a score at working towards Entry Level 3.

Who this course is for

This course is for individuals that have little or some English reading skills. You will learn how to read simple English to help you go about your daily life. You will learn how to read basic forms, use a dictionary, read a letter from your surgery and any letters from your child�s school. You will be able to read basic health & safety and transport information.

Entry requirements

You will need to complete an initial assessment before registration on the course. You must have achieved an Entry Level 2 ESOL Reading qualification (or equivalent), prior to the course or score at working towards Entry level 3 in your initial assessment.

  • You'll read simple letters, including those from your GP surgery and your child's school.
  • You'll read and complete basic forms.
  • You'll use a dictionary to find and understand new words.
  • You'll read basic health and safety information.
  • You'll read transport information to help you get around.
  • You'll build vocabulary for everyday situations including work, study, and community life.
  • You'll read job adverts and understand what they are asking for.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom based and run in the evenings at Lambeth Adult Learning. You'll work through reading tasks linked to everyday situations: letters, forms, signs, and short texts. Assessment is through tasks and activities set during the course. Your progress is tracked as you work toward the Pearson Edexcel Entry Level Award in ESOL Skills for Life (reading) (Entry 3).
