Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll use whole numbers to solve everyday problems, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • You'll work with fractions and percentages in practical contexts.
  • You'll read and use common measurements, including length, weight, capacity, and time.
  • You'll interpret simple charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll handle money calculations, including giving change and working out costs.
  • You'll check your answers and explain your methods clearly.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Selby Adult Learning and Skills Service, with a tutor guiding sessions. Learning is practical and activity-based, applying maths to everyday situations. Assessment is through a written external test set by City and Guilds. You'll also complete an on-screen or paper-based exam when you and your tutor agree you're ready.
