About this course

Free Entry Level 3 Functional Skills Maths in Scarborough. Classes run at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, part-time during the day, making it manageable alongside caring responsibilities or other commitments. Over 18 weeks, you'll build the maths skills needed for everyday life and work. This is an entry level functional skills maths course for anyone who does not yet hold an Entry Level 3 maths qualification or higher. You'll sit a City and Guilds assessment at the end.

This course is for people who want to improve their Maths skills and who currently, do not hold a current Entry Level 3 or higher qualification

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • You'll understand and use simple fractions and percentages.
  • You'll read and interpret straightforward charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll handle money, including calculating costs and giving change.
  • You'll measure length, weight, capacity, and time in everyday contexts.
  • You'll solve practical maths problems you're likely to meet at work or at home.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, with a tutor guiding you through each topic. Learning is hands-on and practical, using everyday examples. Assessment is through a City and Guilds external test. Before you start, you'll have an initial assessment to confirm that Entry Level 3 Functional Skills Maths is the right level for you, and to help plan your learning.
