Entry requirements

No prior qualifications necessary, an interest in improving your Maths is all we need!

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
  • You'll handle money, including calculating costs and giving change.
  • You'll read and use simple fractions and percentages in everyday situations.
  • You'll take measurements and use common units of length, weight, and capacity.
  • You'll tell the time and work with dates and simple timetables.
  • You'll read and interpret simple charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll solve straightforward maths problems using information from real-life contexts.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at St James Old School, with a tutor guiding you through each topic. Learning is hands-on and practical, using everyday examples. Assessment is through a written test set by City and Guilds. You'll sit the test when your tutor agrees you're ready. There is no coursework portfolio for this qualification.
