About this course

Free Entry Level 3 Functional Skills Maths Course in Guildford. Classes run at Guildford Adult Learning Centre, part-time during the day. The course runs for 22 weeks, from January to July, with a two-hour class each week. You'll also need around two hours of private study at home each week. You'll prepare for the Entry Level 3 maths exam, covering the practical maths skills that come up in everyday life and work. This free functional skills maths course is a recognised gcse maths alternative for adults who don't hold a GCSE grade 3 or above in maths.

Who this course is for

You need to be 19 or over on the 31st of August 2025 and not have a grade A* - D / grade 9 - 3 GCSE in Maths. Entry Requirements You will need to complete an online initial assessment. This will help us place you on the correct course. Attendance You will be required to attend at least 90% of your classes. Should your attendance fall below this, your place on the course may be at risk. This is an academic course, and you must allow time for private study at home of at least 2 hours per week.

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • You'll handle money, including calculating costs, change and simple budgets.
  • You'll read and interpret straightforward charts, tables and graphs.
  • You'll measure length, weight, capacity and time in everyday contexts.
  • You'll use fractions and percentages in practical situations.
  • You'll prepare for the City and Guilds Entry Level 3 maths exam.

How you will learn

You'll attend weekly two-hour classroom sessions taught by a subject specialist tutor. Outside class, you'll be supported to study independently using the internet, Moodle, and BKSB. You must attend at least 90% of your classes. The course is assessed by a formal exam at the end.

What you will need to bring

You'll need a ring binder, lined paper, pens and pencils. You'll also need access to a computer or laptop and a printer for home study.
