About this course

Free Entry Level ESOL Skills for Life (Speaking and Listening) Course in Guildford. You need to be 19 or over on the 31st of August 2025. Entry Requirements You will need to complete an online initial assessment. This will help us place you on the correct course. Attendance This course runs two days a week. Each lesson is 2.5 hours long. The course runs for 22 weeks from January to July. You will be required to attend at least 90% of your classes. Should your attendance fall below this, your place on the course may be at risk. This is an academic course, and you must allow time for private study at home of at least 2 hours per week.

What you will learn

  • You'll use simple English words and phrases to ask and answer questions.
  • You'll write simple sentences using basic punctuation and grammar.
  • You'll identify the spelling of common everyday words.
  • You'll take part in individual, pair, and group speaking activities.
  • You'll build confidence responding to questions in English in everyday situations.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom-based at Guildford Adult Learning Centre, running twice a week. You'll work individually, in pairs, and in groups. You'll receive regular homework and are expected to spend at least two hours a week studying at home. Assessment includes a speaking and listening exam and a writing exam, both set by Trinity College London. You must attend at least 90% of classes to keep your place on the course.

What you will need to bring

You'll need a ring binder or folder, lined paper, pens and pencils, and access to a computer or laptop with a printer.
