Free Entry Level 2 Functional Skills English Course in Redcar. Classes run at Redcar and Cleveland College, part-time during the day.

The course runs over 20 weeks. You'll build your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in everyday English. Topics include understanding texts, writing clearly, and communicating with confidence in real situations. There are no entry requirements. You'll complete an initial assessment before you start so the centre can place you at the right level.

You'll finish with a City and Guilds Functional Skills Qualification in English at Entry Level 2.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements, but we ask all learners to complete an initial and diagnostic assessment before the course starts so we can enrol you on the right level.

  • You'll write clearly for everyday purposes, including notes and short messages.
  • You'll spell common words and use basic punctuation correctly.
  • You'll listen and respond in straightforward conversations.
  • You'll speak clearly to share information and ask questions.
  • You'll identify the main points in simple written and spoken material.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Redcar and Cleveland College. Teaching covers reading, writing, speaking, and listening through practical tasks and exercises. Assessment is through a written test and a speaking and listening task. Your tutor will guide you through each skill area at a manageable pace.
