The course runs over 20 weeks and covers reading, writing, speaking, and listening at Entry Level 2. You'll work on everyday English skills used at home, at work, and in the community. There are no entry requirements. You'll complete an initial assessment before you start so the centre can place you at the right level.

You'll finish with a Functional Skills Qualification in English at Entry Level 2.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements, but we ask all learners to complete an initial and diagnostic assessment before the course starts so we can enrol you on the right level.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom with a tutor and other learners. Sessions are part-time and run during the day. The course is assessed through tasks and activities that reflect real everyday English use. City and Guilds set the assessment, which covers reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
