About this course

Free Entry Level 1 Functional Skills English in Northallerton. Evening classes run at Richmond Adult Learning and Skills Service, so you can fit study around your week. Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand short, simple texts on familiar topics.
  • You'll write simple sentences using basic punctuation and spelling.
  • You'll listen to and follow straightforward spoken information.
  • You'll speak clearly to communicate basic needs and information.
  • You'll identify key information in everyday documents such as signs, forms, and notices.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Richmond Adult Learning and Skills Service during evening sessions. Assessment is through tasks set by City and Guilds, covering reading, writing, speaking, and listening. You'll be assessed when you and your tutor agree you're ready.
