About this course

Free Entry Level 1 Functional Skills English in Catterick Garrison. Evening classes run at Catterick Library & Information Centre, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand short, simple texts on familiar topics.
  • You'll write simple sentences using basic punctuation and spelling.
  • You'll listen to and follow straightforward spoken instructions.
  • You'll speak clearly to communicate basic information.
  • You'll identify key information from everyday documents such as signs, forms, and notices.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom based at Catterick Library & Information Centre. You'll learn through tutor-led sessions, group activities, and practice tasks. Assessment for the City and Guilds Functional Skills Qualification in English (Entry 1) includes a reading task, a writing task, and a speaking and listening assessment. All assessments are completed as part of the course.
