About this course

Access to HE Creative Industries Course in Nottingham. Classes run full-time at Nottingham College City Hub, with daytime attendance over one year. An Advanced Learner Loan is available to help with course costs. If you go on to complete a full degree, Student Finance England will write off any outstanding loan balance. This level 3 access to HE creative industries qualification covers online content creation, photography, journalism, film-making, podcasting, and graphics. You'll work on live client briefs and build a portfolio for university or work. Entry requires five GCSEs at grades 4 to 9 including English and Maths, or a Level 2 BTEC Diploma in a related area at Merit.

Entry requirements

All students will be assessed to see what level they are learning at, particularly the level of English and maths skills, as these will be key to success whilst on a programme at Nottingham College.

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 4 (A* - C) including English and Maths (equivalents may be considered), or Level 2 BTEC Diploma in related area at Merit. You’ll be asked to showcase a portfolio of work or demonstrate a passion for a particular subject area.

  • You'll develop studio and location photography skills for commercial and artistic use.
  • You'll practise journalism and film journalism, including documentary and film-making.
  • You'll produce podcasts using professional audio spaces.
  • You'll build graphic design skills as part of your creative portfolio.
  • You'll work on live client briefs to gain real industry experience.
  • You'll strengthen your creative writing skills across different media formats.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions and hands-on practical work in photography studios, a TV studio, and audio spaces. Assessment is through assignments and portfolio work built up across the year. You'll have regular one-to-one meetings with a personal tutor to review your progress. A portfolio of work is central to the course, and you'll have the chance to work on live client briefs as part of your assessment.

The centre will provide most materials. Nottingham College City Hub will confirm anything else you need before you start. You will be asked to bring or present a portfolio of work, or to demonstrate a passion for a subject area, as part of the entry process.
