About this course

BTEC Level 3 Art and Design Course in Nottingham. Classes run full-time at Nottingham College Adams Building, with daytime sessions across the week. Students aged 16 to 18 years old do not pay tuition fees. If you are 19 or over, you may still be eligible for funding. This level 3 BTEC art and design qualification covers fashion, textiles, surface pattern, construction, and computer-aided design. The course takes one year and is equivalent to three A Levels. You'll build a portfolio and develop practical skills in a specialist studio environment.

Entry requirements

You'll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), including English Language and Maths - both of these must be grades 9-4 (A*-C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths, or a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and Maths GCSE grades 9-4 (A*-C).

You will also need a portfolio of work.

What you will learn

  • You'll explore surface pattern design, screen printing, and fabric dyeing.
  • You'll work with computer-aided design tools for fashion and textiles.

How you will learn

Learning is classroom and studio based, with hands-on practical work throughout. You'll complete 90 credits in the first year, building toward the full Extended Diploma. Assessment is through coursework, projects, and portfolio development rather than written exams. You'll also take part in guest lectures, industry visits, and an annual fashion show and exhibition.
