About this course

Access to HE Creative Industries Course in Nottingham. Classes run full-time at Nottingham College City Hub, with daytime attendance over one year. An Advanced Learner Loan is available to help with course costs. If you go on to complete a full degree, Student Finance England will write off any outstanding loan balance. This level 3 access to HE creative industries qualification covers online content creation, photography, journalism, film-making, podcasting, and graphics. You'll work on live client briefs and build a portfolio for university or work. Entry requires five GCSEs at grades 4 to 9 including English and Maths, or a Level 2 BTEC Diploma in a related area at Merit.

Who this course is for

This course is perfect if you want to progress onto a university level course in computer games design and development, digital arts, animation, and programming. It’s ideal for anyone interested in learning about the practical skills needed to design and make computer games. We teach both 2D and 3D games design using both popular and commercial software.

Entry requirements

You must be aged 19 or over to apply for this course.

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 4 (A* - C), including English Language and Maths - both of these must be grades 9 - 4 (A* - C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths, or a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and Maths GCSE grades 9 - 4 (A* - C).

It is not possible to study both GCSE English and Maths on this course.

  • You'll work on live client briefs to gain real industry experience.
  • You'll strengthen your creative writing skills across different media formats.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions and hands-on practical work in photography studios, a TV studio, and audio spaces. Assessment is through assignments and portfolio work built up across the year. You'll have regular one-to-one meetings with a personal tutor to review your progress. A portfolio of work is central to the course, and you'll have the chance to work on live client briefs as part of your assessment.

The centre will provide most materials. Nottingham College City Hub will confirm anything else you need before you start. You will be asked to bring or present a portfolio of work, or to demonstrate a passion for a subject area, as part of the entry process.
