About this course

Teaching Assistant Level 3 Course in Nottingham. Classes run at Basford, part-time during the day, three hours a week from 9:30am to 12:30pm. This level 3 teaching assistant course runs for 34 weeks and builds on Level 2 study, deepening your knowledge of child development, safeguarding, and classroom support. You'll complete a volunteer placement of at least 12 hours a week alongside your classes. Entry requires five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths. Functional Skills Level 2 is accepted as equivalent. You may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with fees.

Who this course is for

This course is the next step on from the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning and will support you to enhance your understanding and your professional practice in the classroom.

As it’s a part-time course it’s ideal if you need to fit your studying around work and/or life commitments. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of child and young person development and you’ll once again be able to put all you learn to good use during your volunteer placement which you’ll undertake for a minimum of 12 hours per week.

Entry requirements

You'll need:

5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 (A*-C), including English Language and Maths at Grade 9-4 (A*-C) NOTE: Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 9-4 (A*-C); or Relevant Level 2 vocational qualification plus English Language and Maths at GCSE Grade 9-4 (A*-C) To be aged 19+

How you will learn

Classes run at Basford on Thursday mornings, 9:30am to 12:30pm. Alongside classroom sessions, you'll complete a volunteer placement in a school for a minimum of 12 hours per week, applying what you learn in a live classroom environment. Assessment is through the units covered during the course, with your placement experience forming a core part of how your practical skills are evidenced.

The centre will provide most materials. Basford will confirm anything else you need before you start. You will need to arrange a volunteer placement in a school or educational setting for a minimum of 12 hours per week throughout the course.
