Who this course is for

This qualification will prepare you to work within a healthcare setting providing complementary therapies for clients who are suffering life limiting condition or who are critically frail. Complementary therapies are widely available to people with cancer and increasingly to patients with a range of long term medical and life limiting conditions.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for registration on this qualification, it is a requirement that you are a qualified complementary therapist holding a Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in at least one of the three main principles of complementary therapies, aromatherapy, reflexology and massage. Anatomy and physiology knowledge at Level 3 or equivalent is also a mandatory requirement.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop an understanding of cancer, its treatments, and how they affect the body.
  • You'll learn how to adapt complementary therapies safely for clients with life limiting conditions.
  • You'll study the physical and psychological needs of clients who are critically frail or seriously ill.
  • You'll explore the role of complementary therapies within a healthcare or palliative care setting.
  • You'll learn how to carry out client consultations and risk assessments in a clinical context.
  • You'll develop skills in applying aromatherapy, reflexology, or massage techniques appropriately for this client group.
  • You'll understand professional boundaries, duty of care, and working alongside medical teams.

How you will learn

Learning takes place in the classroom at The White Rose School of Beauty Derby, with daytime sessions on a flexible timetable. Assessment is through a combination of practical observation and knowledge-based work. You'll demonstrate your ability to work safely with clients in a healthcare context, and your understanding of conditions, treatments, and adapted therapy techniques will be assessed through written or portfolio evidence.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. The White Rose School of Beauty Derby will confirm anything else you need before you start.
