About this course

Level 4 Education and Training Course in Nottingham. Evening classes run at Basford, part-time over 19 weeks. This education and training qualification suits people already working in teaching or training, as well as those moving into it. You'll need at least 30 hours of teaching practice to complete the course, so you'll be applying your learning in a real setting from the start. You'll study roles and responsibilities in education and training, planning and delivering sessions, assessment methods, and how to select the right resources. The course covers action learning too, including reviewing and evaluating your own practice.

You want to develop your knowledge and skills of teaching and training with a specific focus on practical teaching/delivery; You are currently teaching and/or training and want to have your experience and practice accredited with a recognised qualification; You are not currently in a teaching or training role but have the desire to and can meet the minimum teaching practice requirements of 30 hours (evidence of teaching practice must be provided at interview).

Entry requirements

You must be aged 19+, achieved Maths and English at Level 2 and have a relevant level 3 qualification in the subject you wish to teach. A DBS check and at least 30 hours of teaching in a post 14 environment.

How you will learn

Classes run on Tuesday evenings, 5pm to 8pm, at Basford in Nottingham. You'll learn through classroom sessions, practical teaching practice (a minimum of 30 hours required), and action learning. Assessment includes written work, observation of your teaching, and a critical review of literature related to your own area of practice. You'll build a portfolio of evidence drawn from your teaching experience.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Basford will confirm anything else you need before you start. You will need to arrange access to a teaching or training environment to complete your 30 hours of teaching practice. Evidence of this practice must be provided at interview.
