About this course

Level 3 Electrical Installation Course in Barking and Dagenham. Classes run at Choice Training, full-time during the day. This four-year electrical installation course trains you to install, maintain and repair electrical systems in domestic, commercial and industrial settings. You'll cover low voltage electrical devices and appliances, switchboards, cables, lighting, heating, alarm systems and renewable energy technologies. Electrical safety and working from drawings and specifications are central to the programme. Most candidates will have Level 2 English and maths, or will achieve this level before completing the course.

Entry requirements

Individual employers will identify any relevant entry requirements in terms of previous qualifications, trainability tests, or other criteria. Typically, most candidates will have English and Mathematics at level 2.

All will have achieved English at level 2, Mathematics at level 2 by the end of the apprenticeship.

What you will learn

  • You'll install, test and commission low voltage electrical systems and equipment.
  • You'll maintain and repair electrical and electronic installations, including automated production systems.
  • You'll work safely with switchboards, motors, cables, fuses, thermal relays and fault current protection switches.
  • You'll set out jobs from drawings and specifications and requisition installation materials.
  • You'll work on heating, lighting, air conditioning, metering, fire alarm and crime alarm systems.
  • You'll apply electrical safety practices to ensure systems are safe to use on completion.
  • You'll develop the skills to work independently and without immediate supervision.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Choice Training, combined with practical hands-on training. Assessment includes the Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification in Installation or Maintenance. The End-Point Assessment (EPA) is included in the course. You'll also need to achieve Level 2 English and maths before completing the programme if you don't already hold them.
