Entry requirements

Individual employers will identify any relevant entry requirements in terms of previous qualifications, trainability tests, or other criteria. Typically, most candidates will have English and Mathematics at level 2 and Information Communications Technology (ICT) level 1 on entry. All will have achieved English at level 2, Mathematics at level 2 and ICT at level 1 by the end of the apprenticeship.

What you will learn

  • You'll install components of large-scale heating, chilled water, hot water, and cold water systems in commercial and industrial buildings.
  • You'll plan allocated work tasks to install system components under close supervision.
  • You'll undertake testing of system components as part of your allocated tasks.
  • You'll assist with pre-commissioning testing of building services systems.
  • You'll carry out decommissioning tasks on building services systems.
  • You'll apply health and safety, quality control, and environmental requirements relevant to your work.
  • You'll develop a working knowledge of how system components relate to each other within large-scale engineering systems.

How you will learn

This is a classroom-based apprenticeship delivered full-time over 24 months. Learning combines on-programme study with practical, work-based activity. Assessment is through an End Point Assessment, which tests the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required of a Building Services Engineering Installer. Your employer will be involved in identifying entry requirements and supporting your progress throughout the apprenticeship.
