About this course

Level 3 Education and Training Course in Northampton. Evening classes run at Northampton College, part-time over 14 weeks. This education and training qualification is designed for people who are starting out in a teaching, training, or tutoring role, or who want to move into one. It replaced the former PTLLS qualification. You'll study session planning, inclusive learning, assessment methods, and the roles and responsibilities of teachers. You'll need to show the ability to work at Level 3 in your assignments. A short English assessment is part of the enrolment process.

Who this course is for

This introductory qualification is the first step towards becoming a qualified teacher or trainer in the Learning and Skills Sector. It is recognised and valued nationally by employers and so if you want to go into teaching or training, it is an excellent qualification to hold. The course is delivered through practical activities, discussions, presentations and reflective practice. The Award replaced the established ‘PTLLS' qualification. What will I study? The units you will study are likely to include: Student needs Reflective practice Roles and responsibilities of teachers Session planning Inclusive learning and support for students Teaching and learning approaches Assessment methods All units are subject to change and may be withdrawn. Progression and Career Opportunities: Following this course you could progress to a Diploma or Certificate in Education and Training, if you have an appropriate teaching or training role and appropriate subject specialist, English and maths qualifications. The Level 5 Diploma is the nationally-recognised full qualification for teaching in the Learning and Skills sector and the Level 4 Certificate is the nationally-recognised full qualification for trainers.

Entry requirements

You must show the ability to work at Level 3 in the assignments. You do not have to be teaching or training during the course but should be aware that you would need an appropriate qualification and/or experience in the subject you wish to deliver, for any future teaching or training positions. You will be required to attend an advice and guidance session. You will be given a short English assessment so that we can ensure that you will be able to cope with the level of study required.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom-based, delivered through practical activities, group discussions, presentations, and reflective practice. Assessment combines theory and practical assignments. You'll also deliver a 30-minute teaching session to fellow students. All elements of the assessment must be passed to complete the qualification. Before you start, you'll attend an advice and guidance session and complete a short English assessment.
