About this course

Level 3 Children's Workforce Course. Study online at your own pace through The Childcare Company. The course combines workshop-based sessions, face-to-face teaching, and e-learning, so you can fit your studies around existing work or family commitments. You'll develop the skills to support children from birth to age seven, with a focus on the birth-to-five age range in early years settings and reception classes. To enrol, you'll need to be working in an early years childcare setting and have been legally living in the UK for at least three years. The course typically takes 9 months.

Who this course is for

This level 3 training programme develops the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work in a childcare setting, with the opportunity to take responsibility for leading childcare provision.

It is suitable for experienced childcare assistants and those wishing to become room leaders or manage childcare provision.

Entry requirements

You must be able to commit to the full length of the programme, and be able to meet the programme modules through your job role.

What you will learn

  • You'll explain the expected patterns of children's development from birth to age seven.
  • You'll develop skills to meet the needs of children under five in early years settings and reception classes.
  • You'll understand how to create and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment for young children.
  • You'll learn how to observe, assess, and plan for individual children's development.
  • You'll build knowledge of safeguarding, welfare, and child protection responsibilities.
  • You'll develop practice in supporting children's communication, language, and literacy.

How you will learn

The course uses a mix of e-learning, face-to-face teaching sessions, and workshops (masterclasses). You'll complete independent study alongside these sessions. Assessment is based on demonstrating working practice in an early years setting, so you'll need to be in a childcare role while you study. You must attend all masterclasses as part of the programme.

What you will need to bring

The Childcare Company will confirm anything you need before you start. You will need access to an early years childcare setting to complete the practical elements of the course.
