About this course

Level 3 Body Massage Course in Northampton. Evening body massage classes run at Northampton College Lower Mounts, part-time over 8 months. You study Swedish massage techniques alongside anatomy, physiology, health and safety, and relevant legislation. The course puts a strong emphasis on practical work. You'll practise on fellow students first, then work with external clients for your assessments. Around three hours of home study and practice per week is expected. A pre-enrolment guidance call is required before you can book a place.

Who this course is for

This course is for students who wish to acquire a professional qualification in Swedish Massage.

Entry requirements

You should be well groomed, and motivated and be able to communicate at all levels. You should be dexterous and well-coordinated. All students are to receive advice and guidance given via phone or email from either Nicky Maycock or Lindsay Curson before enrolment can take place. To succeed students must have a responsible attitude and a commitment to home study is essential.

What you will learn

  • You'll perform Swedish body massage techniques to a professional standard.
  • You'll carry out advanced client consultations and design bespoke treatment plans.
  • You'll apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology, including cells, tissues, organs and body systems.
  • You'll follow health and safety procedures and relevant legislation in a salon environment.
  • You'll maintain safe and effective working methods that meet industry requirements.
  • You'll develop and maintain salon procedures to control work operations safely.

How you will learn

Learning is classroom-based with a strong practical focus. You'll be assessed through written assignments, online exams, practical observations, oral questions, and a portfolio of evidence. Health and safety is covered as a separate unit before the massage unit begins. Practical assessments take place on external paying clients. Students should be prepared to both practise on and receive treatments from fellow students.

A £1 registration fee applies when you provide a client for a practical assessment, plus the cost of the treatment.
