About this course

Level 3 Assessor Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train while you assess, fitting study around your existing role in an assessment team. You must be aged 19 or over and live in the Darlington or Teesside area (DL or TS postcode) or within commuting distance of Darlington. You'll also need Functional Skills English Level 2 or GCSE English grade 4 as a minimum, or be working toward it. The course runs over 12 weeks. Complete all three units and you'll earn the City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement.

Who this course is for

The course is suitable for those who are either already assessing as part of an assessment team and / or wish to be involved in assessing and need a suitable qualification. You can take various routes and each is priced differently. If you achieve all three units you will receive the Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, anything less than three units will result in an Award.

Entry requirements

You must be aged 19+, reside in the Darlington or Teesside postcode areas (DL / TS), or within commuting distance of Darlington, have the right to live and work in the UK and lived in the UK or EU continuously for the previous three years before the start of learning. You must have, or are working towards, at least a Functional Skills English Level 2 qualification or GCSE English grade 4 (old grade C).

What you will learn

  • You'll understand the principles and requirements of assessment in a vocational context.
  • You'll plan and prepare assessment activities for learners in your workplace.
  • You'll carry out and record assessments using a range of methods.
  • You'll make assessment decisions and provide feedback to learners.
  • You'll understand how to deal with risks and challenges in the assessment process.
  • You'll maintain legal, ethical, and organisational requirements when assessing.

How you will learn

Assessment is work-based and portfolio-driven. You gather evidence from your real assessment practice, including observation records, assessment plans, feedback logs, and professional discussion. A qualified assessor will observe you carrying out assessments in your workplace and review your portfolio of evidence. Completing all three units leads to the full Certificate. Completing fewer than three units results in an Award rather than the Certificate.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Learning and Skills Darlington will confirm anything else you need before you start. You will need access to a workplace where you are already assessing, or working as part of an assessment team, as your evidence must come from real practice.
