Level 2 Site Carpentry Course in Bristol. Classes run at SGS College Filton Campus, full-time during the day. This is a focused, full-time route into the trade, covering the skills and knowledge carpenters use on site. The course runs to 408 hours in total. You'll cover first and second fix carpentry, working safely, and using hand and power tools correctly. Fees apply for this course. Who this course is for
Most full-time courses at SGS are for learners aged 16-18 with some provision available for those aged 14 plus on request. If you are aged 19 and over then formal qualifications that are a prerequisite for younger age groups may not be suitable. What you will learn
You'll learn how to set out and prepare for carpentry work on site.
You'll develop skills in forming and stripping formwork for in-situ concrete.
You'll practise erecting and dismantling timber framing and stud partitions.
You'll learn to install first fix components, including floor joists, flat roofs, and pitched roofs.
You'll develop second fix skills, including fitting doors, frames, and ironmongery.
You'll work with a range of hand tools and portable power tools safely.
You'll understand health and safety requirements for construction environments.
How you will learn
You'll learn through practical, hands-on sessions in a workshop environment alongside classroom-based theory. Assessment combines practical tasks, where you demonstrate carpentry skills directly, with written or knowledge-based assessments covering underpinning theory. Your progress is assessed against the City and Guilds qualification standards throughout the course.
