About this course

Level 2 Nail Technology Course in Northampton. Evening nail technology classes run at Northampton College Lower Mounts, three hours a night. The course takes around 4 months part-time, so you can fit study around your existing commitments. You'll need a Level 2 Manicure and Health and Safety qualification to enrol. All students must complete an advice and guidance session before starting. You'll cover acrylic nail application and infills, alongside anatomy and physiology of the nail and skin. Assessment includes written tests, practical observations, and a portfolio of evidence.

Who this course is for

This course is for students who have already achieved an L2 Award in Manicure and now wish to acquire a professional qualification in Nail Technology.

Entry requirements

The student must possess a Level 2 Manicure and Health and Safety qualification. You should be well groomed, and motivated and be able to communicate at all levels. You should be dexterous and well-coordinated. All students must receive advice and guidance via phone or email from either Nicky Maycock or Lindsay Curson before enrolment can take place.

What you will learn

  • You'll apply acrylic tips and perform infills to a professional standard.
  • You'll carry out advanced client consultations and design bespoke treatment plans.
  • You'll study the anatomy and physiology of the nail and skin.
  • You'll develop and maintain safe salon working procedures.
  • You'll provide written post-treatment advice and recommendations to clients.
  • You'll understand the structure and functions of cells, tissues, organs and systems relevant to nail treatments.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom-based and run in the evening. Assessment combines written assignments and tests, practical observations, oral questions, and a portfolio of evidence. You'll also complete a package of materials that must be brought to every lesson. Bring a pen and notebook to each class. Uniform and kit requirements are discussed at your advice and guidance session before enrolment.

What you will need to bring

Bring a pen and notebook to every lesson. You'll also need to bring your course package materials each week. A uniform costs around £35 if you don't already have one. A kit is required at an additional cost of around £100, on top of any manicure kit you already own. Northampton College Lower Mounts will confirm full details at your advice and guidance session before you enrol.
