About this course

Free Level 3 Understanding Mental Health Course. Study online, at your own pace, around your existing commitments. The course runs to around 153 hours in total, so you can spread the work across weeks or months to suit your schedule. You'll build in-depth knowledge of mental health conditions, mental well-being, and how support is delivered in health and social care settings. This free understanding mental health course for adults is open to eligible learners aged 19 and over. Eligibility depends on your current qualification level and employment status.

Who this course is for

This qualification is designed to increase learners knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental well-being. Successful completion of the required units will allow the learner to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health.

It will also support learner progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for a free level 3 qualification, you must be aged 19+ at the start of the academic year and do not have a level 3 qualification OR you already have a level 3 qualification or higher, but are unemployed OR you already have a level 3 qualification or higher, but earn below the national living wage.

  • You'll understand the factors that influence mental health and well-being.
  • You'll learn how mental health services and support systems are structured in the UK.
  • You'll examine approaches to promoting positive mental well-being.
  • You'll develop knowledge of legislation and policy relevant to mental health care.
  • You'll understand the role of support workers and other professionals in mental health settings.
  • You'll look at how stigma affects people with mental health conditions and how to challenge it.

How you will learn

You'll study entirely online, working through course materials at your own pace. Assessment is based on written assignments and knowledge-based tasks completed online. There are no exams to sit in person. You submit your work digitally, and a tutor will mark and give feedback on each piece. You'll need to complete all required units to achieve the qualification.
