Free Level 3 Sport Course in Whitehaven. Classes run at The Whitehaven Academy, full-time during the day. The course is free for members of The West Coast Sixth Form.

You'll study health, fitness, and sport over 22 months. The Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Diploma in Sport covers anatomy and physiology, fitness training, sports coaching, and sports psychology. You sit two external exams and complete coursework assignments for the remaining units. No prior sport qualification is essential, though entry requirements do apply.

You'll finish with a Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Sport.

Who this course is for

Health, Fitness & Sport is very popular among young people and this is an excellent opportunity to study these areas. Students who have already studied PE at Key Stage 4 will find many of the ideas and concepts are expanded upon in the course. However, the study of the above courses is not an essential requirement, students without this background will be able to develop their skills without prior knowledge. This vocational course gives a great insight into the sporting ‘working’ world and its associated elements.

Entry requirements

A level 2 Merit or above in BTEC Sports Science or a grade 5 in GCSE P.E. If no previous experience, a grade 5 in Science/Additional Science and evidence of contribution to an individual or team sport.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions at The Whitehaven Academy. Two units are assessed by external exams. The remaining units are assessed through coursework assignments. You'll build a portfolio of work across the course, applying your knowledge to real sporting contexts.
