About this course

Free Level 3 NVQ Fabrication and Welding Engineering Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You learn while you work, applying welding skills directly in your job role. The course covers the skills and knowledge needed across different welding processes, assessed against national occupational standards. To join, you must already be carrying out welding tasks in your workplace. The course typically takes 12 months to complete. A free NVQ fabrication and welding engineering qualification shows employers you can perform welding processes to a recognised standard of competence.

Who this course is for

This qualification is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). It involves the skills and knowledge for different welding processes. NVQs are based on national occupational standards, which the learner must meet to be competent in a particular task. The achievement of NVQs will encourage an employee to value their contribution in their workplace. It will enable them to demonstrate they have a nationally recognised level of competence when carrying out welding processes.

Entry requirements

Must be carrying out welding tasks in their workplace.

What you will learn

  • You'll apply welding techniques and processes relevant to your job role.
  • You'll demonstrate competence in fabrication tasks carried out in your workplace.
  • You'll develop knowledge of materials, equipment, and safe working practices in welding.
  • You'll meet national occupational standards for welding and fabrication engineering.
  • You'll show you can work to the quality and safety requirements of your employer and industry.

How you will learn

This is a work-based qualification. You are assessed on the welding tasks you carry out in your actual job. A Training Officer will visit you in your workplace to observe your work and review evidence of your competence. You will build a portfolio of evidence drawn from your day-to-day work. Assessment is ongoing throughout the 12 months.
