This intensive one-year Access to Higher Education course is designed for
adults aged 19+ who are aiming to progress to university and pursue a career in
health and social care. You�ll gain a broad understanding of the sector and
develop the academic skills, confidence and subject knowledge needed for higher
education.
Entry requirements
You must be aged 19 or over and have GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above in English
and Maths. It�s also recommended that you gain some work experience in a
health-related setting before starting the course.
What you will learn
You'll develop an understanding of health and social care systems and practice in the UK.
You'll study human biology and the science underpinning health and illness.
You'll explore social care theory, including safeguarding, equality, and person-centred approaches.
You'll build academic writing and research skills needed for university-level study.
You'll practise critical thinking and how to construct and support an argument.
You'll gain knowledge of psychology and sociology as they apply to health and care settings.
How you will learn
You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Matthew Boulton College, five days a week during the day. Assessment is through a combination of assignments, essays, and coursework completed across the year. There are no formal written exams. Work is submitted and graded throughout the course, building toward the full Diploma.
