About this course

Free Level 2 Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You study while you're in a role, supported by your employer. The course covers safeguarding principles, the Prevent Duty, and online safety, helping you recognise signs of risk and respond appropriately. It takes around 8 weeks to complete. You'll have an initial assessment at the start so your trainer can plan the right level of support for you. You need to be aged 19 or over to enrol.

Who this course is for

This free course will enhance and increase your knowledge and awareness of the Prevent Duty and Safeguarding, including online safety to be able to recognise and reduce risk.

This is a great course if you are:

  • working with children and young people and want to deepen your knowledge of the subject; or
  • a parent looking to learn more about safeguarding and what to be aware for signs of need

Every year over 7,000 individuals are referred to and supported through the Government’s Prevent programme and thousands of individuals supported with safeguarding concerns. So it’s essential that where we work in an environment that has a duty of care, that the very best and knowledgeable staff can quickly and effectively support and act in the right way.

Entry requirements

You need to be aged 19 and over.

You’ll be assessed at the start of the course to determine the right level of support and learning you need by one of our friendly expert Trainers. This will help you complete the course and ensure you achieve your goals.

What you will learn

  • You'll understand what safeguarding means and why it matters in practice.
  • You'll learn how to recognise signs that a child or young person may be at risk.
  • You'll understand the Prevent Duty and how it applies to your work.
  • You'll learn how to respond to safeguarding concerns and who to report them to.
  • You'll understand online safety risks and how to reduce them.
  • You'll learn about legislation and guidance that underpins safeguarding in the UK.

How you will learn

You'll learn through work-based study, supported by a trainer who assesses your needs at the start of the course. Assessment is through written assignments or knowledge-based tasks that you complete alongside your job role. Your trainer will guide you through the material and check your understanding as you progress.
