Free Level 2 Site Carpentry Course in Pershore. Classes run at Pershore College, full-time during the day. You'll study both practical and theory work across the year, covering the skills carpenters use on site every day. Maths and English are built into the course; if you already hold these at GCSE grade 4 or above, you may be exempt. This site carpentry qualification is a solid foundation for employment in the carpentry and joinery industry.

Who this course is for

If you would like to progress from Level 1 and are interested in a career in carpentry then this course is ideal for you. Please note: Maths and English are an integral part of this course. However if you already hold these qualifications at Grade 4 and above then you will be exempt from these qualifications.You will study both practical and theory units. This course is ideal for those looking to gain employment in the carpentry and joinery industry. Learners will engage in additional extra curricular activities such as charity projects, community events and working with local schools. The national Skillbuild competition is an annual intercollege competition which learners from WCG have gained first place in the regional heats for the last 2 years and then gone on to the national finals. Learners will also have opportunity to take part in course relevant trips, such as, the Construction Show at the NEC. Learners will attend site visits throughout the year to gain industry insight. Guest speakers are a regular part of enriching the course content, for instance, professionals from Bosch and Makita come in and provide power tool training to all learners.

  • You'll learn how to set out and install first-fix carpentry, including floor joists, stud walls, and roof structures.
  • You'll learn how to carry out second-fix carpentry, including doors, skirting boards, and architraves.
  • You'll understand how to work safely on site, including using hand and power tools correctly.
  • You'll study the materials, components, and fixings used in site carpentry.
  • You'll develop the underpinning theory knowledge that supports practical carpentry work.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of practical workshop sessions and classroom-based theory. Assessment covers both hands-on tasks and written or knowledge-based work. Maths and English are assessed as part of the course unless you're exempt. You'll be assessed on practical skills as you complete them, building a portfolio of evidence alongside any formal tests or assignments required by City and Guilds.
